Air Canada Flight Attendants Reject Contract Offer, Sparking Renewed Labor Tensions
Air Canada's stock faced significant downward pressure after its 10,000+ flight attendants overwhelmingly rejected a proposed wage increase. The Montreal-based carrier saw 99% of unionized workers vote against the offer, which WOULD have provided 12% raises for junior attendants and 8% for senior staff.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees maintains these increases still leave wages below Canada's minimum standard. Labor relations remain volatile - the same workforce staged an August strike that disrupted hundreds of flights before government intervention forced a return to work.
This stalemate continues a 25-year trend where flight attendant compensation has risen just 10% cumulatively. With neither side appearing ready to concede, the airline risks further operational disruptions during peak travel seasons.
